End of Season Awards Announced

Last Friday, all three teams joined together, with parents, for one final outing…this time to celebrate the 2017 season.

Coach Schmidt and (Sam) Anderson celebrated their team’s 7-win season.  Cole Williams was announced as the Fresh-Soph team’s Rookie of the Year. Michael Trunnell was named the team’s Most Improved Player. Jake Voss and Zach Galvin were named Dual/Co Most Outstanding Players. And Kyle Spaete was given the Coaches Choice Award.

Coach (Clark) Anderson introduced the Jr Varsity team members, and gave praises to the players, parents, and others that made his first year so enjoyable and memorable.  The JV team also finished with 7 wins on the season.

The Varsity season was also summarized, and individuals were recognized with Team Awards, All-Metro, and All-Conference selections.  See table with awards below. Any All-State awards will be announced in mid/late June.

Additionally, at the end of the meeting, Coach (Sam) Anderson announced that this was his final season on the sidelines.  As many people know, he and his wife Kirstin are expecting their first baby, any day.  And while being a new Dad presents its own challenges, so does starting a new church.  Sam is the Student Ministry Leader for Veritas Cedar Rapids, and his workload has grown with the growth of the church. Best wishes to Sam and his family, we appreciate all that he has done for our program over the last 4 years.

Photos Available on Shutterfly

In an effort to share photos from our games, and other events, we have established a Shutterfly Team Share Site.  This is an independent website that we have set up which allows parents, and other individuals, the opportunity to share photos with our entire Linn-Mar Soccer Family.  The site is designed to give users full access to download, and print photos.  *We expect anyone sharing photos in this matter, has this expectation. The coaches may also elect to use these photos online, and via social media, to help promote our program.  Thank you to everyone who contributes to these great photo albums!!

Busy Gameday to start the week

Well it turned out not to be an more than a typical double-header usually is…the JV game at Prairie was postponed Monday morning. But Fresh-Soph still started the night as usual. The Lions were hoping to build on last week’s win over Prairie, however, Iowa City West didn’t get the memo. The Trojans scored one in the first half and one in the second, to top the Lions (2-0).

Tonight’s Starting Lineup

The Varsity team was hoping to build on this weekend’s play. Despite going 1-1, and missing out on playing in the Championship game, the team earned their first win, and put themselves in position to win the game that they lost in penalties. After the first week the Lions fell out of the rankings, while West came into tonight’s game at #3. From the start, Linn-Mar put their foot on the gas and made the Trojans work for a result.  Within minutes the Lions were in the final third and putting heat on the back line. In the 12th minute, Danny Peak’s (junior) corner kick found a wide open Noah Martin (senior) for the first tally of the game (2nd assist, Koby Wesselink (junior)). The Lions added to their lead with a Danny Peak goal, as he curled his shot into the far post (assist Grant Wagner (junior)). The Lions kept West off the board, for the remaining 60+ minutes with a stingy defense, continued pressure in the middle of the field, and a total team effort, making any kind of attack a challenge. Man of the Match: Danny Peak.

Fresh-Soph and Varsity will travel to Kingston Stadium, to face Wash on Thursday night.
